Bart Vannieuwenhuyse > Sea eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) - zeearend - adult bird
Bart Vannieuwenhuyse > To top off a great first day of birding - this great blue heron stood nicely in the sunset. This chance find apperently has also inspired more famous photographers than myself - see e.g. at this link http://www.birdsasart.com/ABPII.htm of Art Morris - quite sure this is the same spot and who knows, it might actually be the same heron ;-)

Bart Vannieuwenhuyse > Man orchid (Orchis anthropophora) with Garden Chafer (Phyllopertha horticola) on top -- poppenorchis met rozenkever -- The latin name of the orchid translates to "man-carrying" which is recognizable in the lugubre french name L'homme pendu - hanged man. During our visit to Torgny (B) in May the garden chafer was very very abundant - never seen that many of these little beetles together. They are related to the much larger cockchafer (or may bug)
Bart Vannieuwenhuyse > Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) - visdief - bringing fish (Texel-May 2007)
Bart Vannieuwenhuyse > Black-tailed godwith (Limosa limosa) - grutto - Uitkerkse Polder
