We made our second whaling trip from Long Island (near Digby) on the Bay of Fundy. Fairly soon after we left port, we saw these Great Shearwaters (Puffinus gravis) - grote pijlstormvogel. These birds are impressive migrants. From their breeding grounds in the South Atlantic (e.g. Tristan da Cunha), they fly north along the Americas, cross over to the other side of the Atlantic and fly back south along Africa... phenomenal distance !
